U Can Be Healthy: Diabetes Tip: What is your A1c?

i'm confused. is it a single test or several tests over a period of time?
  • PatrickPete · 12 months ago
It is a single test, typically taken every three months. What the test does is test for glucose traces on hemoglobin in your red blood cells. A red blood cell typically lives for 3 months (thats why the test is usually taken once every three months). The amount of glucose attached to your hemoglobin over the life of your red blood cells gives a good indicator of how much glucose has been in your blood stream over the past three months.

My a1c has pretty much been dead on with my own records of my sugar levels that I record daily.

Loved to read your blog. I would like to suggest you that traffic show most people read blogs on Mondays. So it should encourage bloggers to write new write ups over the weekend primarily.

Along with the guidance of your physician, you may want to work with a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) on your team. Studies have shown decreases in A1c by 0.75% and a 1% decrease for every 23.6 hours of patient contact with a CDE.* When selecting to work with an educator, you should choose someone you feel comfortable talking to and feel you can contact with questions about the practical details of your diabetes care.
